Bhanu Kapil responds to the recent Stranger article in which Ryan Boudinot, writing of his time at the Goddard low-residency MFA program, suggested everyone quit while they’re ahead (we’re paraphrasing). Kapil, a former colleague of Boudinot at Goddard and current professor at Naropa, dismantles the piece and requests an apology. “…I think you should apologize. To your former students. The ones you wrote such devastating things about….”
Yes, we all await that apology.
Seattle awaits that apology.
No doubt, Boudinot’s fellow Seattle City of Literature board members and staffers, in their silent breath-holding, await that apology. [UPDATE: Ryan Boudinot’s Board of Directors quit en masse, and Boudinot is now officially the former Seattle City of Lit Executive Director.]
At least one current UNESCO City of Literature — Melbourne — has made public its feelings about Ryan Boudinot as helmsman for Seattle’s bid.
